‘How To Make Friends With Your Nerves’ – Marcia’s Story

Marcia Miller 'Make Friends With Your Nerves' cafemnee

I was delighted at being asked to sing, but shocked that it was to be a capella. You see, I’m used to singing in choirs, as backing vocalist, and the rare solo but with instrumental accompaniment, but on this day, Friday 17th August, 2018, my vocals were to be totally exposed, aaaargh!!! No music, at all, whatsoever!

However, I pushed aside the fear of not being good enough, the fear of being compared to others, the fear of singing flat or off key, the fear of whatever all the naysayers could possibly say, and decided to ‘make friends with my nerves’. The result: I felt calmer, more confident, and blessed to accompany and support a friend.

‘How to make friends with your nerves’ was delivered by Novelette Aldred, a guest speaker, at the Cafemnee workshop ‘Your Mind is Your Music’, which took place earlier in the year. Novelette talked about how to deal with negativity and negative nerves and her advice was extremely effective.

From reading this, you may conclude I have benefited from attending Cafemnee workshops, then your conclusion would be correct 😊, and I’m looking forward to further Cafemnee workshops and events!
